Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is rewriting Malayalam box office history. The Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju starrer has now become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time in the USA, surpassing L2: Empuraan.
The film has collected around $14.25 million overseas, which is roughly Rs. 136.5 crores. That overseas performance has become one of the biggest reasons behind its historic worldwide run.
BKU has now crossed the Rs. 300-crore mark worldwide in just 24 days. It is only the second Malayalam film to enter the Rs. 300-crore club after Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. Lokah took 45 days to cross Rs. 300 crores, while Bethlehem Kudumba Unit needed only 24 days. The film’s end-of-day worldwide gross is reportedly around Rs. 305 crores, ahead of Lokah’s Rs. 302.65 crores.
BKU and Ravi Teja’s blockbuster Irumudi have enjoyed excellent footfalls in India’s domestic markets. However, Irumudi has struggled to match its phenomenal local performance overseas. Its overseas gross remains below $2.5 million, while BKU has reached a massive $14.25 million.
This overseas strength has given Bethlehem Kudumba Unit a major advantage in the worldwide race.
From breaking Empuraan and Lokah’s records to becoming the fastest Malayalam film to cross Rs. 300 crores, the Nivin Pauly starrer has turned into a historic blockbuster.
