Still in Denial: Suriya’s Director Refuses Flop Tag

Director Karthik Subbaraj

Suriya’s Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, which was released in theatres on May 1st, received disastrous responses from audiences and ended its theatrical run as a below-average performer in terms of box office collections.

Yesterday, Karthik Subbaraj posted a tweet on his X account regarding the 50 days of Retro, in which he mentioned that the film literally fought a war after its theatrical release, beyond target hatred and agendas, there was love. This has now gone viral.

Following this, some netizens got triggered and criticized Karthik Subbaraj, as he kept repeating in recent interviews and tweets that a negative hatred campaign was spread against Retro during its theatrical release, and it affected its theatrical run.

To this, netizens commented that Karthik Subbaraj is still not accepting his mistakes; he delivered a disastrous movie and is just denying the fact that Retro was a failure by illustrating that a negative hatred campaign was spread against the movie.

Also, even after the failure of Game Changer, in which the story was written by him, post-release he said it wasn’t his and he just provided the one-line, throwing the blame on Shankar, says the Kollywood audience.

However, Kollywood audiences are suggesting that Karthik Subbaraj should accept his mistakes first and should concentrate more on delivering a compelling movie, rather than blaming the negativity spreading on social media, as a good movie will not be affected even if a negative campaign is performed.
