Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons directed by Venky Atluri is gearing up for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14th. With only a few days left until the release, the Vishwanath & Sons team has started doing round the clock promotions for the film.
While it was earlier expected that Vishwanath & Sons would enjoy a solo release with no competition due to the monstrous theatrical success of Suriya’s last film, Karuppu, now the August 14th release slot suddenly seems overcrowded. Two potential films with the calibre to affect Vishwanath & Son’s box office collections are now gearing up for a theatrical release on the same date.
When the Vishwanath & Sons team was preparing for a solo theatrical release, the makers of Kavin’s and Nayanthara’s Hi also locked in the August 14th release slot, declaring a neck and neck clash with Vishwanath & Sons.
After Hi entered the race, many trackers suggested that a medium-budget film’s release alongside a big release is a normal phenomenon, claiming it would give the audience options.
But now, the makers of Vishal’s debut directorial venture Magudam also locked the August 14th release slot and confirmed it with a special poster. Consequently, the August 14th release slot now became overcrowded with three films such as Vishwanath & Sons, Magudam and Hi.
Even though Magudam and Hi are medium-budget movies that do not match Vishwanath & Sons in terms of budget and hype, both films feature notable stars and have the potential to affect the box office collections of Vishwanath & Sons.
Meanwhile, on the BookMyShow ticket booking platform, Vishal’s Magudam is leading with around 52.4k interests compared to Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons, which has around 32k interests so far. Consequently, some people on social media are sharing these comparisons, claiming that Magudam seems to have higher hype than Vishwanath & Sons.
However, with three films releasing on August 14th, it remains to be seen whether Vishwanath & Sons, Magudam or Hi will emerge as a blockbuster success and become the winner of this Independence Day race upon their release.
