Tesla Autopilot Comes To China, India To Follow

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is in Beijing to talk about the release of Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and obtaining authorization to send data outside. Musk did not reveal the contents of his meeting with Premier Li Qiang in Beijing.

Tesla’s Model 3 and Y vehicles, on the other hand, have been approved by a major Chinese auto organisation as meeting China’s data security regulations. The most self-sufficient version of the Autopilot software, called FSD, has traffic navigation, automatic lane changes, and self-parking capabilities.

Musk has long hailed FSD as a potential cash cow for Tesla, but in the face of legal and regulatory scrutiny over the company’s safety and marketing, he has not been able to provide a fully autonomous driving experience.

Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, cancelled a trip to India and a scheduled meeting because of worries about the company’s development trajectory. As a result, the stock has dropped by over one-third this year. If Musk gets permission to send China data outside, the unexpected trip to China might mark a significant turning point for Tesla.

Since 2021, Chinese regulations have mandated that Tesla retain all data gathered by its Chinese fleet in Shanghai; the business is unable to export any of this data back to the United States.

With more bikes and pedestrians than in many other markets, China’s convoluted traffic patterns offer more training situations for autonomous driving algorithms more quickly.
