Emirates has purchased 29 Airbus A380 superjumbos along with five Boeing 777 aircraft during the 2025–26 financial year. The airline confirmed the acquisitions in its latest annual financial report while also announcing a record annual profit of $6.2 billion.
The newly acquired Airbus A380 aircraft were already operating within Emirates’ fleet under leasing agreements. The airline is expected to reduce long-term leasing expenses through these purchases while retaining stronger operational control over its flagship double-decker aircraft.
Although Emirates did not disclose the exact value of the deal, industry estimates suggest each used Airbus A380 may be worth nearly $45 million. The aircraft’s market value has declined since Airbus officially ended production of the model in 2021.
Emirates continues to remain the world’s largest operator of the Airbus A380 aircraft. The airline currently operates more than 90 superjumbos across its international network. Emirates has also confirmed plans to continue flying the aircraft well into the next decade.
Alongside the latest acquisitions, Emirates reported significant investments in fleet modernisation, technology improvements and cabin refurbishment programmes. The airline has already upgraded the interiors of 91 aircraft, including the introduction of premium economy cabins on several flights.
Despite operational disruptions linked to regional tensions and airspace restrictions near Iran, Emirates restored nearly its complete global network by the end of the financial year. The airline also has more than 360 aircraft on order, including Boeing 777X and Airbus A350 jets.
The latest move reflects Emirates’ continued confidence in high-capacity international travel demand. The airline remains focused on long-term expansion while strengthening its position in the global aviation market through fleet growth and modernisation strategies.
