After the complaint lodged by Arfath’s roommates, the Cleveland police and the Indian Consulate in New York has been working closely together on the incident.

To make the incident even shadier, Arfath’s family received an unknown call demanding $1,200 for Arfath’s release, failing it would result in them selling his kidneys. The family has written to S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, to intervene in the matter.

This is among a long list of Indians and Indian origin students falling into shady incidents. Many students have been found dead under suspicious circumstances, though no direct link with anything fishy has been made as of now.

What is behind these is a mystery that everyone wants to solve given it has created a sense of fear among Indian students in the US.
