A viral Instagram post by Dhruvee Patel has shocked Indians worldwide. She described how 56 Indian travelers were detained at the Georgia border on September 16th, despite holding valid e-visas and documents, and were subjected to harsh and humiliating treatment.
Hours in Freezing Cold
According to Patel, the group was made to sit on a footpath for hours in freezing weather. Their passports were seized for more than two hours, and they were denied food, water, and toilets for over five hours during the ordeal.
Allegations Against Officials
The travelers allege that border officers filmed them and dismissed their valid documents as “wrong” without proper checks. This blatant disregard has sparked outrage, with many Indians demanding accountability and urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and EAM S Jaishankar to intervene.
Anger and Fear Online
The incident has fueled widespread anger online, with calls for a boycott of travel to Georgia. Many Indians compare this to profiling and rude treatment at U.S borders, where even valid visa holders sometimes fear harassment or denial of re-entry.
What Travelers Should Do
Experts suggest that in such cases, contacting the Indian embassy should be the first step for legal aid and protection. Families and lawyers must also be informed immediately. Travelers are warned not to sign any documents without legal assistance.
Silence from Authorities
So far, there has been no official response from Georgian border authorities or India’s MEA. With border detentions on the rise globally, many fear such silence only deepens mistrust. Indian travelers now demand stronger protections and safer international travel.
