In the past few months, we have witnessed Indians becoming victims of crimes and unfortunate accidents in the US. Very few Indians involve themselves in a crime.
Even if they do, most of them are financial frauds or immigration frauds. Usually, no one joins crimelords and gets involved in gang wars.
But in a rare case, an Indian tried to enter a premises illegally armed with a gun.
A 32-year-old Indian American, Rushabh Shah, sparked chaos at a Buford Drive Waffle House, Georgia, by entering around 2:30 am armed with an AR-15 rifle, frightening both staff and customers.
Witnesses said Shah pointed the gun at an employee and asked if he should use it. Then he ordered food like nothing was wrong and told the cook to act normal.
The armed entry caused panic, leading some patrons to seek shelter and one witness to hide in a restroom.
When the police came, Shah was still there with his gun.
Body camera footage captured officers urging him to surrender and follow their instructions to drop the gun and get on the ground.
Shah was apprehended without further trouble, though his motives remained unclear. He cited protection against gangs as a reason for carrying firearms.
Another worker at a different Waffle House said Shah had shown up there earlier with a rifle.
Shah is facing serious charges like assault and is in jail without bond.
