Whenever we talk about drug cartels, countries like Colombia and Mexico are the first to pop in our head. But as trafficking drugs is getting difficult with increased surveillance, these drug lords are also expanding their business to different parts of the world. India has emerged as a lucrative market for these cartels and this latest bust in Punjab is just a small evidence of that.
It hasn’t been long since drugs worth ₹20,000 crore were seized at a port in Gujarat. It was one of the biggest drug busts in history and a clear indication of something big happening in India. The recent drug bust in Punjab’s Ludhiana suggests that local drug lords have tied up with Mexican cartels to create drug labs in India.
Nine people were arrested in this operation which also busted a drug lab. Three out of them were Mexicans who were working as chemists in these labs synthesizing methamphetamine. The Indians supplied them with all the raw materials needed for methamphetamine.
The prime suspect in this case is believed to be a lawyer from Mohali. The Mexicans came to India in November last year and they received instructions from their handlers who were in Mexico and the UK. The cartel operated in the Delhi-NCR region, Rajasthan, Punjab and Dubai.
