BBC Studios has decided to exit the Indian production and has signed a partnership with Banijay Asia for the upcoming years to adapt the formats for the Indian audience. The news comes after BBC has completed its production commitments in India.

The latest agreement has been signed between Banijay Entertainment alongside the founder and CEO Deepak Dhar, who are going to use their expertise to provide an Indian touch to the BBC formats for different platforms.

Notably, Banijay Asia has already created Indian versions of a lot of international shows over the years such as Big Brother.

Executive VP of Global Entertainment for BBC Studios Jacob DeBoer said that Banijay Asia will be the best producer to bring the Indian formats of different shows from BBC’s huge collection.

Deepak Dhar also said that they are aiming to bring high-quality content for all platforms and both companies would remain committed to offering powerful storytelling to the audiences. MD Global Entertainment for BBC Studios Matt Forde said that they are eagerly waiting to start everything as soon as possible.

While the latest agreement is expected to provide better content, it has additionally led to job loss for four full-time staff members and 30 fixed-term contractors. This has once again proved that certain companies need to take care of the consequences of unemployment in case they are signing such contracts.

On the other hand, it seems like the latest deal might bring something new and different for the Indian audience, specifically a theme or subject that they may not have explored in the past. However, it is better not to keep any heavy expectations and wait for the official announcements.
