Rs. 25 Cr Legal Notice on Netflix & Kapil Sharma

Kapil Show legal notice Baburao act

The Great Indian Kapil Show is facing a major legal issue. The controversy arises from an act where Kiku Sharda imitates Baburao from the cult comedy film Hera Pheri. This act is featured in the final episode.

Producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala has sent a legal notice to Netflix. He claims the character was used to make the audience laugh without proper permission. Firoz emphasised that Baburao is the soul of Hera Pheri, originally played by Paresh Rawal.

In the notice, Firoz highlighted the legacy created through years of hard work. He stated that no one can use the character for commercial purposes without consent. He also added that culture should be preserved, not exploited.

The legal notice demands the removal of the sequence where Kiku Sharda appears as Baburao. It also seeks the deletion of the same content from social media and other platforms. A written assurance that it won’t be repeated is also requested.

Firoz is seeking Rs. 25 crore in compensation within two days. An apology is demanded within 24 hours. The notice warns that civil and criminal action will follow if these demands are ignored.

The issue has sparked debates about imitating iconic characters on television. Shows like Kapil’s and other stand-up series often parody famous film characters, but the recent legal notice raises questions about crossing the line.

With only a day left for the final episode, it is unclear whether the controversy will boost viewership for Netflix. So far, neither Kapil Sharma nor Netflix has made any public comment on the notice.
