Bomman and Bellie, the beloved stars of the Oscar-winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers,’ have raised eyebrows by sending a legal notice to filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves, demanding a ‘goodwill gesture’ of ₹2 crore.
The dispute centers around promises made during the production, including a proper house, a versatile vehicle, and financial support. The couple’s disappointment has escalated due to alleged disparities in financial benefits, with Gonsalves reportedly reaping rewards from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and PM Modi.
Chennai-based social activist Pravin Raj, who has championed Bomman and Bellie’s cause, shared that the couple had put their trust in Gonsalves, expecting a shared success.
However, as the documentary achieved global acclaim, Gonsalves’ response reportedly waned, leaving Bomman and Bellie disillusioned.
Advocate Mohammed Mansoor, representing the couple, revealed that Gonsalves’ response refuted any further assistance, citing prior financial contributions.
Despite the legal back-and-forth, Sikhya Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the production company, maintains its dedication to elephant conservation and forest department efforts.
‘The Elephant Whisperers’ documentary earned India its first Oscar win in the Documentary Short Subject category, spotlighting the exceptional bond between elephants and their caretakers.
