Sanya Malhotra starrer Mrs. released on OTT in February and ever since then it has divided social media into two. It is a remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen that talks about the atrocities faced by women in the household.
Apart from Sanya’s exceptional performance, fans loved the film for raising a socially relevant theme. But there are also many who are triggered by its attack on patriarchal family values.

People stated that cooking, cleaning and taking care of the household has always been a woman’s duty. While men work outside in conditions like war, construction work, heavy labour etc.
Such comparisons are unjust as the male dominance of society is not taken into account. Many felt that what women do at households cannot be invalidated but it is also due to the pressures of patriarchy that they are forced into their roles.

Many called this film a “feminist propaganda”, others highlighted how depicting just a woman’s daily life can trigger narrow minded people. On the other hand netizens, especially women, feel films like Animal and Kabir Singh where women are tortured and treated like objects are glorified and earn big time at box office.
Space should be made for difficult stories like Mrs. as they raise relevant questions. People always have a choice to watch or not watch a film but spreading hate on the pretext of a film is unjust.
