Streaming your favorite content on OTT is getting dearer with time. Even though there has been a rising competition between streaming services companies over acquiring a larger user base, it hasn’t manifested into any direct benefits for subscribers. Netflix has increased the subscription rate for its basic and premium plans in the USA, UK and France. This is the 3rd time the tariffs have been increased in the last two years.
In the US, subscribers have to pay $2 extra for the basic plan and $3 more for the premium one. They will now cost $11.99 and $22.99 respectively. A similar increase in rates took place in the UK and France. The response to this price hike has been fairly positive in the market as within a few hours, Netflix’s share soared 10 percent.
Netflix has added nearly 9 million new subscribers in the recent months marking that the company is doing fairly well for market acquisition. This increase has been attributed to Netflix’s crackdown on password sharing. Addition of new and international content regularly on its platform has been another reason for this growth in subscriber base. It has more than 247 million subscribers worldwide now.
