Prime Video India’s social media strategy has recently come under scrutiny for stirring up unnecessary fan wars.
By posting content that makes fanbases go against each other, the platform sees a spike in engagement. But at what cost?
The comment sections of these posts are often flooded with toxic debates, abusive language, and aggressive fan rivalries.
Taking inspiration from Prime Video India, Netflix India seems to be using the same strategy.
A recent post was shared by Netflix India’s page, comparing Prabhas in Salaar and Allu Arjun in Pushpa 2 with the caption, “When fight sequences peaked”.
While it may have seemed harmless at first, the comments tell a different story. Fans have fiercely been defending their favourite star while degrading the other in the comment section.
While these tactics can generate higher engagement, they could also ultimately damage the credibility of the social media handles of these streaming platforms.
Social media helps in building a positive brand reputation. Encouraging fan wars might bring temporary traction, but in the long run, it is not the right option.
Given the international stature of Prime Video and Netflix, they need to reconsider their approach.
Healthy discussions and fan interactions can be created without starting fan wars. A more responsible social media strategy will ensure long-term credibility while maintaining engagement without toxicity.
