Sankranthiki Vasthunam Remake: Did Akshay Reject?

Akshay Kumar Sankranthiki Vasthunam remake

Akshay Kumar was rumoured to be leading the Hindi remake of Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunam, with Dil Raju producing and Anees Bazmee directing. However, reliable Bollywood reports have confirmed that Akshay has no plans to take up the project.

As per Pinkvilla, Akshay watched the original Venkatesh blockbuster as a fan but realised that recreating its essence for a Hindi audience would be difficult. While he and Anees Bazmee are discussing another film, this particular remake has been shelved.

Sankranthiki Vasthunam thrives on local humour, emotional depth, and cultural references that resonate strongly with Telugu audiences. Translating those nuances for Hindi viewers would demand major creative changes, which might dilute the film’s original warmth and comic flavour.

A few years ago, remakes of Telugu hits worked well, but audience preferences have evolved. Today’s viewers look for originality and regional authenticity rather than rehashed versions of popular films.

Akshay already has a packed slate that includes Haiwaan, Bhagam Bhaag 2, Welcome to the Jungle, and Hera Pheri 3. Avoiding the remake seems like a smart decision. He is also involved in the Oppam remake, Haiwaan, which is already progressing steadily.

In choosing not to pursue Sankranthiki Vasthunam, Akshay appears focused on balancing new stories and proven entertainers without stretching his schedule. Some films, it seems, are better celebrated than remade.
