In comparison, Alia’s win felt unearned to a large section of fans. Yet, some defended her, saying her portrayal of a devoted sister in Jigra was layered and emotional. She balanced vulnerability with strength and handled action sequences with surprising conviction.
Still, frustration remains. Alia now holds the record for the most Filmfare Awards won by any actress, surpassing Kajol and Nutan. It also marked her third consecutive win — after Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani and Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Many fans feel this streak shows bias from the jury, while others argue she simply outperformed her peers. Either way, the backlash online has turned intense. Despite the noise, Alia’s commitment and effort in Jigra deserve acknowledgment.
