Sandeep Vanga vs Dhar: Who Wins Toxic Masculinity War?

Dhurandhar vs Animal film debate

As much as Dhurandhar has received praise, it is also facing strong backlash online for its toxic themes. Many viewers feel the film glorifies aggression and unhealthy masculinity, sparking heated discussions across social media platforms.

The film has often been compared to Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, which was also labelled one of the most toxic films in recent years. Fans believe both films celebrate extreme behaviour in the name of strength and dominance.

According to online discussions, there is a gladiator style battle in Bollywood over who appears more manly on screen. With Animal and Dhurandhar, fans feel Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Aditya Dhar are locked in an ego clash over creative vision.

After Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy, many expected Vanga to respond to criticism with restraint. Instead, he leaned further into the same themes and delivered Animal, which intensified debates around violence and masculinity.

Fans argue that Dhurandhar follows a similar template but uses patriotism as cover. They feel nationalism softens the impact, allowing the film’s toxic elements to pass without facing the same level of scrutiny.

The pattern, according to viewers, remains familiar. A young, angry, bearded man turns to extreme violence to achieve his goals. The difference lies in how the story is presented and justified.

Some fans credit Animal for at least attempting something bold and original. In contrast, Dhurandhar is criticised for reusing the formula and making it easier to consume for a wider audience.

Viewers also compare the antagonists. Akshaye Khanna’s role in Dhurandhar reminded many of Bobby Deol’s character in Animal. However, Bobby’s performance felt more threatening, while Khanna’s seemed like an imitation.

The larger concern is not about which film is better. It is about how such violent and toxic narratives continue to succeed, earn huge profits, and attract audiences who question them only after paying to watch.
