Films inspired by mythology are trending once again, especially after the announcement of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. Now, reports suggest John Abraham is gearing up for a modern-era film based on the Mahabharata.
According to sources, director Arun Gopalan, known for Tehran, has written a contemporary adaptation of the epic. John was reportedly impressed with the script and Arun’s vision to retell the greatest story in a modern setting.
The film is tentatively titled Duryodhana, with John expected to play the iconic character. He will also produce the project along with Sandeep Leyzell. Pre-production will begin next year, and filming is planned for June 2026.
Fans are excited to see John and Arun reunite after Tehran. At the same time, some argue that filmmakers rely too heavily on mythological texts, using them as a safe way to draw viewers. For them, only a strong film will truly justify such a grand attempt.
