At the event, John also revealed his new look—a mustache—which he confirmed was for his upcoming role in the biopic of Rakesh Maria, the former Mumbai Police Commissioner.

Known for popularizing the cop universe genre, the film is also set to be directed by Rohit Shetty.

Along with the biopic, John also confirmed he will be reuniting with Parmanu director Abhishek Sharma for his upcoming film Munkeeman, blending superhero elements with a myth.

From playing a top cop to joining a quirky superhero flick, John Abraham is back with socially conscious, action-packed roles. But with such promising stories, could weak directorial choices hold the film back?

Rohit Shetty, previously known for delivering blockbusters, has seen a sharp decline in his storytelling quality in recent years.

The Singham franchise was widely loved for its earlier films, but the later installments have failed to recreate that magic, and Singham Again is still recovering from its brutal trolling. Even despite Simmba’s success, audiences couldn’t ignore that it was just another remake and not an original.

After hits like the original Singham and Chennai Express, Rohit seems to have lost touch with creating entertainers that truly connected with the audience.

Even John hasn’t been able to deliver anything remarkable; his recent The Diplomat was appreciated but not to the heights of his previous projects.

Now, with the announcement of a biopic on Rakesh Maria—one of India’s most respected and honored police officers—many are questioning if Rohit and John are the right choice to tell such an important story.

Rakesh Maria was the important profile behind solving cases like the 1993 Bombay bomb blasts, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, and the 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar blasts.

A biopic on his life deserves a nuanced and respectful portrayal— something the audience is unsure Rohit can deliver in a mere two-hour film, especially considering his recent track record.

The casting of John Abraham as Rakesh Maria also hasn’t completely satisfied the audience, particularly due to his streak of underwhelming performances.

There are rumors that post-Singham Again, many big stars are refusing to work with Rohit, which could explain why he turned to John for this project.

With all the buzz and speculation, the big question remains: can two people with a track record of flops come together to create something worthwhile, or will this biopic be another addition to their blacklist?
