The investigation into the firing outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai has taken a serious turn. Police say the case points to a wider conspiracy involving multiple groups operating across states.
According to reports, seven more accused have been arrested in recent days. The arrests were made from parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Among them is the main shooter linked to the attack.
The probe by the Mumbai Crime Branch along with the UP Special Task Force revealed that the accused were allegedly recruited through social media. Investigators claim they were contacted by members linked to the Shubham Lonkar gang.
Sources say the young men were lured with promises of quick money and recognition. Media reports further claim they were influenced in the name of Hindutva and drawn into what was described to them as a mission to spread fear.
Police stated that the main shooter was allegedly paid an advance of Rs 50,000. He was reportedly promised a larger amount after the act was carried out.
Investigators also revealed that two separate groups were involved. One group, based in Pune, handled planning and logistics. Another group from North India allegedly carried out the firing.
The accused named so far include Deepak Chandra Sharma, Sonu Thakur, Hrithik Yadav, Vinshu Kushwaha, Jatin Bhardwaj, and Vishal Thakur. They are said to be from areas such as Agra, Etawah, and Haryana.
Police officials have said the investigation is still ongoing. As the accused continue to change and add details in their statements, more information is expected to emerge in the coming days.
