Bollywood actor Salman Khan has received interim relief from a Mumbai civil court in a defamation case against filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap and others. The court addressed what it described as abusive and defamatory remarks made against Salman Khan and his family members.
On January 30, 2026, Judge P. G. Bhosale passed an ad interim ex parte injunction while hearing the civil suit. Salman Khan has sought a permanent injunction along with Rs 9 crore in damages against Abhinav Kashyap and others named in the case.
The plea states that the suit was triggered by 26 video interviews and podcasts released between September and December 2025. These contained statements described as scandalous, false, and grossly defamatory in nature.
The content was reportedly shared through YouTube and the entertainment channel Bollywood Thikana. According to the case, the remarks targeted not only Salman Khan’s professional standing but also the personal reputation of his extended family.
During the hearing, the court observed that the statements appeared prima facie defamatory, derogatory, abusive, and insulting. It noted that such remarks can lower a person’s reputation in the eyes of the public.
The court also stressed that no one should make defamatory statements against another person’s family. It highlighted the serious impact such comments can have beyond professional disputes.
Abhinav Kashyap made his directorial debut with the 2010 film Dabangg starring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. He has also worked as a writer on films like Jung, Yuva, Manorama Six Feet Under, and 13. B.
Despite Dabangg’s success, Abhinav Kashyap did not return to direct Dabangg 2. In a recent interview with SCREEN, he discussed his fallout with Salman Khan and made strong remarks about the actor.
In that interview, Abhinav alleged that Salman Khan lacked interest in acting and used abusive language. These statements reportedly escalated tensions and led to the Rs 9 crore defamation suit.
For now, the court has restricted Abhinav Kashyap and other defendants from publishing or circulating further content related to Salman Khan or his family. The restriction will remain until they appear before the court and submit their replies.
