The massive success of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ is the talk of the day among the public and critics alike.
This success is a very special one as it gives some key pointers to Bollywood on things that need to be done right for the industry to go back to its glory days.
Bollywood has failed to recognise the massive demand for love stories. While genres like horror-comedy and action have become the staple, the industry has had miserable luck in tapping into the goldmine that is hardcore romantic cinema.
There has also been a lack of films that have forced the audience to shed tears, also known as ‘tear jerkers’.
This can only happen when some part of the public’s lives becomes relatable to the character in a very intimate way, which is absent in most films now.
While it is repeatedly thought that mass films need to have action masala, Bollywood has proved time and again with films like ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’ that one doesn’t need to beat a million goons to be called a mass film.
Everyone likes films that have soul-touching music rooted in the ground. While this used to be a given at one time, it is hardly the case anymore.
The industry needs to spend more on R&D. Talent needs to be better recognised rather than using and reusing now-irrelevant actors.
The mood of the masses needs to be tapped into to produce films resonating with the masses.
If these pointers are followed, people may start to give Bollywood the same level of respect it once so-naturally commanded being at the forefront of Indian cinema to the globe.
