Mastiii 4, released on November 21, arrived with high hopes among adult comedy fans. Instead, it opened at just Rs. 2.25 crore and may finish below Rs. 15 crore. Trade experts say the film clearly failed to connect with audiences.
One major criticism is the weak humour. Taran Adarsh said he had not watched the film but heard that the jokes felt forced. Many viewers found them unnecessary and vulgar. When actors laugh on screen but audiences remain silent, the comedy loses its impact.
Another concern is the ageing cast. Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani led the franchise successfully in 2004 when Masti released. Two decades later, analysts feel that younger faces were needed to appeal to Gen-Z. Older viewers no longer enjoy this style of comedy.
Experts also blamed weak marketing and outdated humour. With adult content now common on OTT platforms, viewers expect something fresher. The A certificate kept families away, while multiplex audiences show less interest in loud adult comedies today.
The failure of Mastiii 4 proves that franchises alone cannot ensure success. With many sequels underperforming this year, trade voices agree that viewers want fresh writing, better humour and stories that suit today’s tastes.
