When Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool declared himself to be the “Marvel Jesus,” it was one of the biggest meta-gags of the trailer. As we know, MCU is going through a crisis. Both in the universe and at the box office. It certainly needed a Messiah, and Deadpool stepped up. When Deadpool first appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, everyone rioted for a more comic-accurate adaptation, which they got in 2016’s Deadpool. What no one saw coming was the possibility of the mutant becoming the herald of the biggest crossover event yet.
With the return of Wolverine, the rest of the characters from the past era of Marvel appearing as well doesn’t seem that far. The problem is that these days, “cameos” are the only thing keeping Marvel afloat. Starting off with the Quicksilver in Wanda Vision, followed by Daredevil appearing in No Way Home, and then we had Multiverse of Madness. Including Charles Xavier, Black Bolt, and even the favorite fan-cast of all time, John Krasinski as Reed Richards, fan service has become the new brand of Marvel.
It is believed Taylor Swift’s cameo as Lady Deadpool can be expected. The other names include multiple mutants, Elektra, and the cast of 2005’s Fantastic Four. Given the “multiversal” nature of the film, it makes sense that characters from other universes jump in, but will this be another one of Marvel’s nostalgia-fueled cashgrabs? Or will Deadpool heal the lazy writing of the recent MCU with maximum effort? We are yet to see.
