The CBM genre as a whole is going through a crisis. One that is very much accredited to marvel. A genuine case of superhero fatigue has set in. the idea of a shared universe spanning over 33 movies at this point, woven intricately is something a lot of fans have kept record of but at the same time it has become a hindrance for anyone who is new to jump in on the marvel bandwagon. Basically, to understand the plot, let alone the gravity of a movie like Endgame, one has to go over the prior history of the MCU. Very exhaustive and demanding.
This year however is about to be a bit Drier than usual. With only Deadpool & Wolverine hitting the theatres as MCU’s pitch to its fans. Given the fact that it is technically a mixture of not just one, but two fleshed out universes that is MCU and the FOX X-Men universe one may assume one has to do a whole lot of homework. A whopping 55 MCU projects and 13 X-Men movies to be precise.
When Shaun Levy was presented with this problem, Levy stated “I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies.” Levy apparently made sure that he is free from the presumption that every moviegoer would be educated on the expansive lore of marvel mythos.
Levy stated that it is a movie for which you wouldn’t need peak fluency. Sounds counter intuitive, given that it will have cameos even from the pre FOX X-Men era of marvel movies like Punisher Daredevil and Elektra. Apparently freeing the movie from the “Marvel Curse”. Freeing it from the burden of the immense lore of the MCU.
