Spider-Man 2 is the second highest-grossing film at the North American box office as of April 22, 2024, with $925,000, behind Alex Garland’s new drama Civil War. The movie brought in $805k from 467 theatres, with an astounding average of about $1,700 per theatre.
Spider-Man 2 is superior to a lot of recent films. For the second time, the movie took first place at the North American box office, trailing only the horror flick Abigail, which took third place with $742k.
A24’s Civil War and Radio Silence’s horror thriller Abigail are two other noteworthy releases. With remarkable results, the re-release of all eight Spider-Man films got underway yesterday.
Rereleases have surged in honour of Columbia Pictures’ 100th anniversary; Sony has made $1.5 million thus far. The series will end in June with the return of Spider-Man: No Way Home, following the events of Spider-Man 2.
Even after decades, comic book films continue to be highly popular among viewers, according to Jeff Bock, Senior Media Analyst at Exhibitor Relations. Alongside Universal Pictures, Disney, and other studios that have recently re-released oldies, Sony is the newest to cash in on nostalgia.
Disney is commemorating Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’s 25th anniversary with a re-release in Ma, while Universal Pictures re-released Shrek 2 in honour of its 20th anniversary.
