New Records: Can Rajamouli Really Do It?

Baahubali re-release poster in theatres

South Indian cinema is now completely caught up in the trend of re-releases. Classic hits are returning to theatres and drawing huge crowds once again. Fans seem eager to relive their favourite moments on the big screen.

This time, the focus is on a giant Baahubali: The Epic, hitting theatres on October 31. The film’s return has already created major buzz, making it one of the most anticipated re-releases in recent times.

At the box office, however, the current record belongs to the Tamil film Ghilli, which grossed over ₹32 crore from its re-release the highest ever for any re-released movie. For Baahubali, that becomes the target to beat.

Yet, the challenge is real. The film runs for nearly 3 hours and 40 minutes, limiting the number of daily shows. Also, Baahubali has been widely watched on television for years, making it harder to recreate that original thrill in theatres.

Adding to the curiosity, the producer confirmed that there are no deleted or new scenes in this version but promised a “surprise” for viewers. With Rajamouli’s name attached, expectations are sky-high. For many, anything less than a record-breaking run would feel incomplete for a film of this scale.
