Can UBS Hold Its Ground Against Dhurandhar 2 Wave?

Dhurandhar 2 vs Ustaad Bhagat Singh clash

March 19, 2026, is becoming the biggest battlefield Indian cinema has seen in years. We’ve got festivals like Eid and Ugadi lining up, but the real fireworks are at the box office. On one side, you have the Hindi juggernaut Dhurandhar 2 aiming for a ₹100 crore opening. On the other, the ‘Power Star’ Pawan Kalyan is returning with Ustaad Bhagat Singh.

At this point, we should all admit that Dhurandhar 2 isn’t just a movie or a highly anticipated sequel anymore; it has become a national event now. After the first part grossed a staggering ₹1,300 crore, the sequel has hit the ground running.

In just the first 24 hours of advance booking, over 1.4 lakh tickets flew off the shelves. That’s nearly 10,000 tickets every single hour.

Also, JioHotstar has paid a record ₹150 crore just for the digital rights. But why is the hype so crazy for Dhurandhar 2? Let’s dive into the theories that are keeping us awake.

The trailer shows Jaskirat in a brutal state, full of raw anger and emotional pain. The big theory is that we will finally see his recruitment. We could see how Ajay Sanyal (played by R Madhavan) discovers him in an Indian prison and gives him a choice: rot in a cell or serve your country in the shadows.

Now, let’s talk villains. With Rehman Dakait out of the picture, the focus shifts to Major Iqbal and Chaudhary Aslam. But the name on everyone’s lips is ‘Bade Saab.’

Some say Bade Sahab is a high-ranking official, others think he’s a fictionalized version of a real-world underworld don. Either way, Major Iqbal seems to be working under him to set a deadly trap for Hamza.

Then there’s Yalina, played by Sara Arjun. That one shot of her pointing a gun has sparked a thousand debates. Does she find out Hamza is a spy? Or is she pointing it at her own father, Jameel Jamali? Removing her father would clear Hamza’s path to absolute power in Lyari. But some fans have a crazier theory: Yalina isn’t a victim; she’s becoming a partner in Hamza’s rise. She might actually share that control over Lyari, which would be a massive character twist.

Now, let’s talk about the South India factor. Usually, Bollywood sequels struggle in the South, but Dhurandhar 2 is on a rampage. Tamil Nadu is showing over 20% occupancy already! Followed by 11% in Andhra Pradesh, 14% in Telangana, and 16% in Karnataka (especially after Toxic’s delay).

But a new challenger has appeared: Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh. It’s a direct clash on March 19. Let’s be real, Pawan Kalyan is a force of nature in theTelugu states. Even with a full-time political career, his connection with the audience is unbreakable. But there’s a catch. Ustaad Bhagat Singh has had a very long and troubled journey. It was first announced way back in September 2021. We are now in March 2026.

Usually, when a film spends nearly 5 years in production hell, the final product can suffer from noticeabe flaws. Plus, director Harish Shankar is under a lot of pressure. He gave us the hit Gabbar Singh, but his recent track record is shaky. Gaddalakonda Ganesh was a decent success, but his last outing, Mr. Bachchan, with Ravi Teja, was a disaster. If Ustaad doesn’t excel in every department, it might struggle to hold its ground against the Dhurandhar wave.

Also, If Ustaad Bhagat Singh’s team goes for a hike in ticket prices, then it could alienate a noticeable section of viewers in the Telugu states.

But we should not also ignore that Dhurandhar 2 has a massive 4-hour runtime. To put that in perspective, it’s the longest Hindi film in nearly 17 years, joining the ranks of legends like Lagaan and Mera Naam Joker.

This is a double-edged sword. Can a modern audience sit through 4 hours? Every chapter, every character arc, and every action sequence has to be world-class to justify that length. If the middle sections lag, the Telugu and Tamil audiences might lose interest quickly. However, if Aditya Dhar pulls this off, we are looking at an epic that defines a generation.

Moreover, The war doesn’t wait for March 19. The real fight starts on March 18 with the paid previews. Dhurandhar 2 is playing a strategic masterstroke by starting its previews at 5:00 PM.

Immediately after, Ustaad Bhagat Singh will launch its own previews to reclaim its home territory. It’s a rare sight to see two giants fighting for the same evening slots. While Dhurandhar 2 is already beasting on BookMyShow, selling 2 tickets every second, Pawan Kalyan fans are gearing up for massive FDFS celebrations. The results of these evening shows on the 18th will decide who wins the weekend.
