December has historically been a strong month for the Indian film industry. Over the years, several big films released during this period have gone on to become massive successes. Movies like Pushpa 1 and 2, Animal, Salaar, and others proved how powerful December releases can be.
This December also arrived with high expectations. Multiple films hit theatres during the season, including Dhurandhar, Akhanda 2, and Avatar 3. The lineup created strong buzz even before the releases.
As expected, December has delivered another jackpot film in the form of Dhurandhar. The film has turned into a box office monster and has already crossed the ₹600 crore mark. It continues to perform strongly across centres.
On the other hand, Balayya’s film is posting reasonable numbers in the Telugu states. However, considering the massive investments involved, the collections are being termed as just okay. Despite shortcomings, the Boyapati mass film is holding steady in terms of numbers.
Meanwhile, Hollywood’s Avatar carries a rich legacy in India. This time, however, it is struggling to pull audiences to theatres. The response has been far below expectations compared to its earlier runs.
The trend is quite clear at the box office. Dhurandhar stands out as the only clear winner this season. Other films are managing average collections for now.
The upcoming Christmas weekend is expected to further boost Dhurandhar. It remains to be seen whether the other films can also benefit from the holiday period.
