One of the mainstream mass directors of this generation Prashanth Neel dropped a special promotional video of Dragon featuring NTR last night on the occasion of latter’s birthday.
Right from the outset, it is extremely clear that Prashanth wanted to display the magnitude and the scale of this project with grade A visuals from start to end.
But there is this one particular observation regarding the musical aspect of the video, and it is evident that Neel wants to blatantly come out of the KGF zone music.
Earlier, in the case of KGF, a dramatic and template version elevation score was used to elevate the hero episodes. This later became a hallmark trait for Neel and his films.
Even in the case of Salaar, the music pitch and orchestration was elevated to progressive and Hollywood style rather than loud and pumping style of KGF. This might’ve worked exceptionally well after the OTT release but not so much in the first viewing in theatres. With KGF-style music, the payoff might’ve been better for Salaar during theatrical run itself and this was a big miss.
Now, a similar plan of action appears to be coming up for Dragon. The music for the teaser last night was more in Salaar zone than KGF zone. This could be an education of the kind of musical score that’s going to be coming up for the NTR film.
In terms of audience perception, the KGF zone music will give instant high and feeling of excitement visually and musically. But Salaar style progressive music is more classy and will grow on viewers.
