Despite three films set for release tomorrow, advance booking trends suggest a weak response. Industry sources say the ongoing Vinayaka immersion festivities have slowed bookings, with audiences waiting for word of mouth before heading to theatres. September 5 marks the tenth day of the festival, and many cinema lovers remain busy with celebrations, leaving halls near empty. While top stars might still pull crowds, actors like Anushka Shetty, Sivakarthikeyan, and Mauli face challenges in drawing footfalls.
The main immersion ceremonies will take place on September 6. Organisers, participants, and volunteers are fully engaged in preparations for these large scale events. Public attention is fixed on rituals and processions rather than movies during this festive time.
The films scheduled tomorrow also lack big star power. Anushka has a loyal fan base, but it alone cannot ensure packed shows. Without a supporting actor like Naveen Polishetty this time, expecting her to carry the films in such a dull phase is unrealistic.
Promotions for Ghaati used audio clips with Anushka alongside Prabhas and Allu Arjun to build buzz. Madharaasi, on the other hand, already looks like a weak bet unless walk in viewers arrive in strong numbers and word of mouth helps.
It is surprising that the makers overlooked the clear fact that people would prefer Ganesh festivities over films during this time. With multiple releases but low enthusiasm, this weekend appears highly challenging for the industry.
