Peddi Backlash: Why NTR and Not SSR, Nani or Vanga?

Jr NTR appreciation post for Sing Geetham

Jr NTR’s recent social media post appreciating Sing Geetham has unexpectedly become a hot topic of discussion among Telugu cinema lovers on social media.

NTR took to social media recently to praise the film, veteran filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, producer Nag Ashwin, and music director Devi Sri Prasad. On the surface, it appeared to be a simple gesture of support for a film and the people associated with it.

However, social media rarely allows things to remain that simple.

Almost immediately after NTR’s post, sections of social media began attaching their own interpretations to it. Some users sarcastically claimed that the actor was promoting Sing Geetham aggressively to divert attention from Peddi, which is currently running in theatres.

The controversy escalated further because NTR did not post any public appreciation message for Peddi. For some rival fan groups, that became a triggering point.

However, many NTR fans have questioned why the actor alone is being targeted. As expected, fan wars quickly took over the discussion.

Several other prominent actors, including Venkatesh Daggubati, Naga Chaitanya, Nani, and Rana Daggubati, also publicly appreciated Sing Geetham. None of them posted about Peddi either, yet they received no backlash.

Some of the industry’s biggest filmmakers were also involved in the discussion. Both SS Rajamouli and Sandeep Reddy Vanga reportedly watched special premiere shows of Peddi. Despite watching the film, neither filmmaker posted any public appreciation message about it on social media. However, both later expressed admiration for Sing Geetham and publicly appreciated the film and its team.

Yet, unlike NTR, neither Rajamouli nor Sandeep Reddy Vanga became the target of trolling, speculation, or accusations of deliberately ignoring Peddi.

That has led many observers to conclude that the backlash has less to do with the tweet itself and more to do with existing fan rivalries.

Appreciation for one film should not automatically be interpreted as criticism of another. Actors and directors are under no obligation to publicly endorse every film they watch, and social media silence does not necessarily indicate disapproval.

But in today’s social media ecosystem, especially when top heroes are involved, even a simple tweet can trigger days of speculation, trolling, fan wars, and unnecessary controversy.
