In five days, a new movie called Kalki 2898 AD will be in theaters. It’s the first Telugu sci-fi mythological drama of its kind. To explain the story and create awareness, a new trailer called the release trailer was also released recently.
The film draws heavily from Indian epics like the Mahabharata, featuring characters like Arjuna, and Ashwatthama, and themes from the Bhagavad Gita and Puranas.
The story of Kalki 2898 AD is rooted in the timelines of the Mahabharata, spanning from 3102 BC to the onset of Kali Yuga in 2898 AD.
Amitabh Bachchan portrays Ashwatthama, a pivotal figure from the Mahabharata known for his role in the Kurukshetra war.
During this conflict, Ashwatthama, aligned with the Kauravas, breaks war rules by attacking the Pandavas at night and later directs his anger towards Draupadi’s family.
In retaliation, Arjuna, guided by Lord Krishna, confronts Ashwatthama with the Brahmastra weapon. Fearing disastrous consequences from their clash, Arjuna withdraws, but Ashwatthama, unable to retract his weapon, tragically targets Draupadi’s unborn child instead.
In Kalki 2898 AD Nag Ashwin explores Ashwatthama’s redemption as he becomes the guardian of an unborn Kalki, believed to be the future avatar of Lord Vishnu.
The narrative interweaves Hindu mythology, with Prabhas as Bhairava, another incarnation of Vishnu, and Disha Patani’s Roxie, inspired by Vaishno Devi. Kamal Haasan portrays Supreme Yaskin, the antagonist orchestrating conflict in a futuristic world where he is revered as a god-like figure.
The story is set in the future, aligning with events from ancient scriptures, linking the characters to ancient legends and prophecies.
While the elderly may be well-versed in these stories and concepts, the Gen-Z audience may feel alienated from them. Watching the film, a significant portion of the audience may struggle to comprehend the events unfolding on the screen due to their lack of knowledge about the history of these illustrious characters.
To address this, it would be beneficial for the filmmakers to provide brief snippets or explanations about the mythological and historical characters featured in the film. This would allow the audience to familiarize themselves with the characters and their significance before watching KALKI 2898 AD.
A video clip featuring Balakrishna explaining the intricate connections between the characters in the Ramayana and Mahabharata has become popular on social media.
People are humorously suggesting that the makers should organize a special class with Balakrishna, where he can provide a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics between all the legendary Indian mythology epic characters.
By offering these additional resources and explanations, the filmmakers can enhance the viewing experience for all audiences, ensuring that even those who are less familiar with the mythology can fully appreciate and engage with the story of KALKI 2898 AD.
