Rashmika Mandanna, who made her acting debut with the Kannada film Kirik Party, is now one of the most popular pan-India actresses. Over the years, she has built a strong fan base across languages.
Her recent back-to-back hits — Pushpa, Animal, and Chhaava — have earned her nationwide recognition. Her latest film with Dhanush, Kubera, is also generating positive buzz.

However, despite her rising success, Rashmika has recently come under fire from her home turf — the Kannada film industry.
The controversy began after a recent interview in which Rashmika claimed she is the only person from the Kodava (Coorgi) community to enter the film industry. This statement has upset many, especially members of the Kodava community and Kannada film fans.

Several actors from the Kodava community have been active in cinema long before Rashmika.
Notable names include actress Prema, a leading star of the 1990s and early 2000s, as well as Nidhi Subbaiah, Krishi Thapanda, Harshika Poonacha, Daisy Bopanna, and Shwetha Changappa — all of whom have contributed to Kannada and other regional cinema.

Rashmika is now facing criticism for ignoring or overlooking these artists. Critics argue that her comment was not only factually inaccurate but also disrespectful to those who paved the way before her.
Whether it was a careless oversight or a genuine misunderstanding, many believe Rashmika should acknowledge the legacy of fellow Kodava artists. With a platform as massive as hers, accuracy and recognition matter — especially when representing one’s own roots.
