A star is not only known for his box office stamina in films that are mass-appealing and much-hyped, but he is also known by how much audience he can bring to the theaters, even for his least-hyped films.
Khans are ruling Bollywood for almost three decades now. 90s and 2000s belonged to SRK, 2010s belonged to Aamir and Salman. SRK faced some failures in the last decade, after which he took a break of five years to return with an All Time Blockbuster like Pathaan.
Now post-pandemic, Salman and Aamir are facing a hard time at the box office. Aamir Khan’s last film Laal Singh Chaddha sank without a trace, and now Salman’s latest release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, is also facing rejection from the audience if we go by the advance bookings.
Shah Rukh Khan’s least hyped film was Jab Harry Met Sejal in 2017. That film collected 16 crores on its opening day. Around 6.5 lakh tickets were sold for its opening weekend. His other film, Zero (2018), also didn’t have much hype, but still, it ended up collecting 20 crores on its opening day, with more than 10 lakh tickets sold for its opening weekend.
Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha was not a massy film, and being a remake also was the reason for its low hype. It sold around 2 Lakh tickets for its opening weekend. It collected around 11 crore on its first day.
Salman Khan’s last theatrical release, Dabanng 3, also had low buzz because of flop songs and a bad trailer. That film sold 8 Lakh tickets for its opening weekend.
Now Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan has sold less than 3 lakh tickets for its opening weekend. Despite being a mass-appealing film, the presence of Salman Khan, a cameo from Ram Charan, and hit music, people are not coming out to watch the film. The opening of the film is expected to be around 12-14 crore which will be a low first-day collection for a superstar film.
The bad reputation of the director Farhad Samji, the remake factor, and ground-level negativity against Salman Khan are being cited as the reasons for its underperformance.
