Films become hits or flops for many reasons, but an actor earns an image only through the roles they play on screen. Senior actor Naresh is one of those rare talents who can still influence a film’s fate if his character is written well. Samajavaragamana is the perfect example of that.
Unfortunately, ever since that film, no director has managed to use even a fraction of his potential. Despite appearing in movies like Sundarakanda and the recent K-Ramp, his roles have been so limited that his press meet appearances seem longer than his actual screen time.
Take K-Ramp, for instance. Naresh appears in only a handful of scenes across both halves, yet he attended several press meets talking about how memorable his role was going to be. The result, however, is shocking.
Not only is his screen time in KRamp is minimal, but the director also reduced such a capable actor to delivering double-meaning dialogues that are awkward even to repeat in public. For a veteran with decades of experience, it’s disappointing to see him accept such poorly written roles.
Naresh remains one of the few senior actors who can effortlessly balance comedy and emotion in the same scene. That’s exactly why it’s painful to see new-age directors use him merely for cheap laughs. Naresh too should realize that today’s audience, especially Gen Z, doesn’t enjoy this kind of humor. They appreciate genuine performances and solid writing, not vulgar comedy. Hopefully, he rethinks his role choices before it’s too late.
