Rajamouli is the biggest commercial filmmaker in Indian cinema and the stakes are exceptionally high on all his films. Given the scale of his box office blockbusters, the extended timelines of his filming process are justified. In accordance, he took 3 years for RRR and executed a winning box office monster in the end.
But on the other hand, Shankar has also taken nearly 3 years for Ram Charan’s immediate next film after RRR – Game Changer. This film has been in the making for nearly 3 years now.
Given Shankar’s weak run of form, taking such humongous production days which in turn leads to huge production costs is way too risky. There’s no doubting his talent but taking such elongated shooting schedules and concurrent production costs will only add additional pressure not just on him, but the producer and also the hero.
Charan had to spend around 3 years while in the peak of his prowess for Game Changer. What’s more concerning is Shankar wasn’t even fully committed to the project either. He was doing Indian 2 in the middle, which doesn’t happen with a star hero’s film usually where the director goes off on other projects.
After spending so many perishable resources, Shankar is in a position where he must and should deliver a winning film, like how Rajamouli does with his big event films. Otherwise, he will be the culprit for wasting Charan’s resources and also put the producer Dil Raju at a huge risk.
