Real Problem With Premalu In Telugu

Premalu

The Malayalam film industry has gained attention in Indian cinema with three consecutive blockbusters: “Premalu,” “Bramayugam,” and “Manjummel Boys.”

However, “Bramayugam,” starring Mammootty, didn’t fare as well in Telugu as it did in Malayalam.

Premalu, a love story set in Hyderabad, was a hit among Kerala’s youth and is now being dubbed into Telugu.

Despite its success in Malayalam, the dubbed version might not capture the essence of the original, as seen with “Hostel Huduguru Bekiddare,” the Kannada blockbuster that didn’t resonate with Telugu audiences despite good dubbing and great dialogues in Telugu as Hostel Boys.

“Premalu,” depicting Kerala migrants in Hyderabad, relies heavily on its cultural context, which might be lost in translation.

The film’s essence lies in the characters adapting to Telugu and local culture, a theme that could be diluted in the dubbed version if the characters are already speaking in Telugu.

Thus, while “Premalu” may be appreciated by Telugu audiences on OTT in its original Malayalam form, its impact could diminish when dubbed into Telugu, potentially losing the essence of its storyline and cultural nuances.

However, Premalu can turn out to be a big surprise at the box office if the youth resonates with the theme and screenplay.
