Actress Slams Paparazzi: ‘Don’t Objectify or Sexualize Us’

Sapthami Gowda at public event

Kantara actress Sapthami Gowda has made a strong and much needed statement against the way some photographers and YouTubers cover female actors at public events. Her message was originally shared through Instagram stories with the hashtag #ActorsNotObjects.

In her statement, Sapthami clearly called out the practice of filming actresses from inappropriate angles and using unnecessary zoom-ins that focus on their bodies instead of their work. She described this behavior as disrespectful and unacceptable.

Her full message emphasized one simple point. Women in the film industry are here for their craft and their cinema, not to be objectified. She strongly condemned deliberate zoom-ins and inappropriate obscene camera angles, calling them violations of dignity. She also demanded professionalism, basic respect, and decency from those covering public events. Importantly, she said that actresses stand united in setting this boundary and supporting every woman who has faced such treatment.

Her statement is not isolated. Actresses in other industries, including Janhvi Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, and Ayesha Khan, have previously raised similar concerns about sensationalist and invasive camera work at public events.

By saying, “We are here for our craft. We are here for our cinema,” Sapthami has shifted the conversation back to professionalism and artistic identity. Appreciation is welcome. Objectification is not.

Whether this leads to lasting change depends on how seriously event photographers, media channels, and audiences choose to take it. One thing is clear. She has started an important conversation about respect and dignity in public spaces.
