Bhagyashri Shines but Why So Much Hate for Sreeleela?

Sreeleela and Bhagyashri Borse

Lenin has opened to a decent response, but one of the biggest discussions on social media is about Sreeleela, even though she is no longer part of the film. When Lenin was announced, Sreeleela was the original heroine and even appeared alongside Akhil in the first-look teaser. Later, due to date issues, she exited the project, and Bhagyashri Borse stepped in.

Now, after the film’s release, social media is flooded with posts saying things like, “Let’s appreciate the Lenin team for replacing Sreeleela with Bhagyashri Borse.” That naturally raises one question: why is Sreeleela being dragged into a film she is not even connected with anymore?

There is nothing wrong with appreciating Bhagyashri’s performance. She has done a great job, and many viewers feel she suited the emotional role of Bharathi very well. But that does not automatically mean Sreeleela would have failed. Whether Sreeleela would have performed better than Bhagyashri is something nobody can answer today.

At the same time, not all the backlash against Sreeleela is baseless. She entered the industry with tremendous goodwill. Audiences appreciated her screen presence, dancing ability, and energy. However, over the last few years, she has repeatedly chosen commercial films where the heroine has little to do beyond songs, glamour, and romance. As a result, many viewers have begun to believe she cannot carry performance-oriented roles. That perception is largely the result of her own career choices.

The bigger challenge for Sreeleela now is not responding to trolls but changing the negative perception around her. She needs stronger, performance-driven roles that allow her to showcase her acting rather than just her glamour and dancing skills. Her delayed Bollywood debut with Aashiqui 3 and Diler has only added to the uncertainty, making her next few project choices even more important.

As for Lenin, whether Sreeleela was in the film or not is ultimately a hypothetical debate. Critiquing an actor’s career choices is fair. Turning every success into an excuse to mock someone who was not even part of it is unfair.
