Actress Tamannaah Bhatia has faced a legal setback, as the Madras High Court has dismissed her case seeking Rs. 1 crore in damages from Power Soaps Limited.
The issue goes back to 2011, when Tamannaah filed a case against the Puducherry based company. She alleged that the company continued using her photos on soap covers and advertisements even after her agreement as brand ambassador had ended. According to her, this unauthorized use affected her image, and she asked for compensation.
However, the case did not go in her favor earlier as well. In 2017, a single judge of the High Court dismissed her complaint. Tamannaah then challenged that decision by filing an appeal in 2018.
Now, in April 2026, a division bench of the court, including Justices P. Velmurugan and K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi, has also rejected her appeal. The court said there was no strong reason to change the earlier decision, and so the case has been closed.
In simple terms, Tamannaah’s claim has been fully rejected after a long legal fight of more than 10 years.
At the same time, this case raises a few questions. Usually, issues related to image rights and endorsements depend heavily on contracts and proof. The court’s decision suggests that either the agreement terms did not strongly support her claim or there was not enough evidence to prove misuse after the contract ended.
It also shows how long legal battles can take in such matters. Even after more than a decade, the final outcome did not change from the original judgment.
For Tamannaah, this is clearly a setback. But for the industry, it is also a reminder that endorsement agreements need to be very clear and strong to avoid such disputes in the future.
