Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar’s latest film, “The Lady Killer,” is shrouded in mystery as it gears up for an unexpected theatrical release today.
With just a handful of shows in select cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Bhopal, Aligarh, and Ahmedabad, and a mere two screenings in Delhi, it seems that the makers are not even interested in its theatrical release as they already guessed its disastrous outcome at the box office. No wonder the actors chose to avoid promoting it.
Insiders have revealed that a significant portion of the film remains incomplete with a lot of shooting yet to be done, forcing the production team to delve deep into the editing room, employing meticulous techniques and strategic voiceovers to piece together the available footage into a coherent narrative.
We recently wrote about how a section of the film industry’s rush to meet digital platform deadlines has led to questionable practices, including releasing unfinished movies in theaters.
While this may protect profits for some producers, it risks damaging the reputation of digital platforms and diminishing the value of movies in the long run. Such practices could ultimately harm the industry, affecting both larger and smaller productions.
This is the third unfinished film that is releasing in a span of less than one month after Mission Ranigunj and Ganapath just to get booty from OTT platforms. Such practices are nothing but insulting the audiences. But audiences are also giving tight slap to such makers by making such films humiliating disasters at the box office.
