The Hindi market has emerged as the biggest challenge for South Indian pan-India films over the last few years, and 2026 has been particularly disastrous. Several high-profile dubbed releases opened with decent expectations but failed to generate even minimum collections, exposing the growing gap between pre-release hype and audience acceptance.
The latest casualty is Jana Nayagan, whose Hindi version, Jan Neta, performed even worse than the Tamil version.
It collected only Rs. 11 crore net during its extended first week, while the second weekend added barely Rs. 1 crore before Spider-Man: Brand New Day virtually wiped it out of theatres.
This year’s big South Indian dubbed releases have all struggled in Hindi:
Peddi – Rs. 18 crore net
The Raja Saab – Rs. 17.5 crore net
Jan Neta – expected to finish around Rs. 13 crore net
For films mounted on massive budgets and released as pan-India spectacles, these numbers are embarrassing.
That leaves Yash’s Toxic as the next pan-India box office test. Yash’s action drama carries enormous financial expectations, and a strong Hindi run is crucial to justify its scale and budget. If Toxic also stumbles, 2026 may be remembered as the year the Hindi market outrightly rejected South India’s pan-India films.
