AP Above Telangana in GSDP Growth Rate

Andhra Pradesh GSDP growth

According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Andhra Pradesh has outpaced Telangana in gross state domestic product (GSDP) growth for the financial year 2024–25. The top ten Indian states with the highest GSDP growth are led by Tamil Nadu at 11.19%, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 8.99% and Bihar at 8.66%. Andhra Pradesh secured the fourth position with an 8.21% growth rate, ahead of Telangana, which stood at 8.08%.

This development is particularly notable because Bihar has also surpassed both Telugu-speaking states, landing in third place. GSDP measures the total value of goods and services produced within a state over one fiscal year, similar to how GDP functions for the nation. Andhra Pradesh’s climb is significant considering it has yet to establish a full-fledged state capital and has faced hurdles following the state bifurcation.

Telangana, which benefited from inheriting Hyderabad as its capital, was expected to maintain an edge. However, Andhra Pradesh has defied those expectations. The state’s position on this list could help attract future investments, as GSDP rankings often indicate the economic potential of a region. Despite setbacks during the YSRCP government, which failed to develop a capital city and struggled to attract industries, Andhra Pradesh is now showing renewed momentum.

With a double-engine government under the NDA led by Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh has demonstrated clear economic progress. The state’s performance over just one fiscal year is enough to surpass neighbouring Telangana, which once had a headstart. Andhra Pradesh is now seeing growth across various sectors including IT, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, green energy, and manufacturing.

In the fiscal year 2023–24, the GSDP growth rate of Andhra Pradesh stood at 6.18%. For 2024–25, the projected GSDP is ₹8.73 lakh crore. This upward trend signals a promising economic future for the state as it continues to climb the national ranks.
