Bhogapuram International Airport construction

The long-awaited transformation of the North Andhra corridor into a powerhouse international transit hub has entered its definitive operational countdown.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, alongside Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu and local legislators, led a critical, high-level structural review directly at the Bhogapuram International Airport site.

With engineering work on the terminal building and the primary runway hovering on the verge of total completion, the high-stakes ministerial huddle focused heavily on establishing strict timelines for the final layer of regulatory compliance, safety testing, and passenger facility validations.

This greenfield aviation asset, officially named the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, is being aggressively fast-tracked to permanently take over the region’s entire commercial footprint, bringing a decisive end to the civil constraints of the older, dual-use military enclave nearby.

While the core airport infrastructure stands combat-ready following successful validation flights, the primary focus of the high-level review has swiftly pivoted to resolving immediate connectivity and transit challenges for the regional public.

Located roughly fifty kilo-meters outside the city center, the airport’s operational viability hinges entirely on the rapid completion of localised arterial road networks and major national highway connecting nodes.

Minister Ram Mohan Naidu pushed regional transport authorities and infrastructure teams to meet aggressive deadlines for widening key transit junctions, installing advanced digital navigation signage, and preparing a fleet of eco-friendly electric buses to establish a seamless transit corridor for incoming passengers.

By aggressively resolving these final road connectivity bottlenecks, the administration aims to ensure that the monumental asset acts as an instant, frictionless engine for trade, global investment, and regional employment the moment commercial operations officially lift off.
