Merger Talk Leads BRS Leaders Towards BJP

MLA Guvvala Balaraju joins BJP Telangana

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which aimed to position itself as Telangana’s main alternative to Congress, is facing turbulence as merger rumors and internal rifts weaken its standing. The recent Kaleshwaram commission report and KCR’s behind-the-scenes directives have left party leaders uncertain.

Adding to the turmoil is the ongoing power tussle between KTR and Kavitha, which has demoralized the cadre. With KCR’s age and health concerns creating leadership gaps, several BRS loyalists now see the BJP as a stronger alternative.

The crisis deepened after former MLA Guvvala Balaraju announced his decision to join the BJP, shocking BRS just months before local body elections. While the party had earlier contained defections of 10 MLAs after the 2023 polls, Balaraju’s exit has reignited speculation about a larger exodus. His leaked audio, where he asks, “If BRS is merging with BJP, why wait to join?” has gone viral on social media, further fueling merger buzz.

BRS has also failed to appoint in-charges in constituencies where defections occurred, leaving grassroots workers feeling abandoned. Discontent among the cadre and the lack of clear direction have only strengthened BJP’s silent outreach strategy.

Political analysts call this BJP’s “Operation Akarsh,” aimed at building influence at the district, mandal, and panchayat levels ahead of the next assembly polls. However, the saffron party is in no hurry to induct all defectors. Each leader’s political clout and constituency base will be evaluated before final approval.

The coming weeks will reveal whether this slow but steady drift will reshape Telangana’s political landscape or if BRS can counter the growing perception of decline.
