The Central government has released Rs 410.76 crore to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s rural local bodies, bringing relief and development opportunities to communities across the state. The funds are part of the 15th Finance Commission allocations for the financial year 2025–26.
The grant will benefit 13 zilla parishads, 650 mandal parishads, and 13,092 gram panchayats. The funds are meant to boost local infrastructure and governance, focusing on essential services like sanitation, clean drinking water, and water conservation projects.
The government also rolled out several digital governance initiatives, including Sabhasaar, SVAMITVA, eGramswaraj, and Gram Manchitra. These programmes aim to improve transparency and efficiency in rural administration through technology-driven solutions.
Officials clarified that the funds must be used only for local development needs listed under the 11th Schedule of the Constitution. They cannot be diverted for salaries or establishment-related expenses under any circumstances.
This release marks the first round of United Grants for the year. In total, the Centre allocated Rs 1,091.47 crore on Thursday for Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal combined, further strengthening local bodies and rural governance in both states.
