The BJP top brass has decided to move BJP national president JP Nadda to a new position. This has resulted in the search for a new BJP president.
For now, the battle is between two women contenders, both from south – Purandareswari from Andhra Pradesh and Vanathi Srinivasan from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
As per a story in New Indian Express, the new BJP president will be announced by March15-16. Daggubati Purandareswari is the current AP chief of BJP while Vanathi Srinivasan is the BJP Mahila Morcha national president and Coimbatore MLA.
The saffron party is considering a variety of factors such as party dynamics, upcoming elections and caste equations. BJP is known for encouraging unity through consultation by involving its stakeholders.
Nadda’s successor will be finalized through internal consensus. The party is most likely to select a woman from south India to send out a strong message to people of south India.
Purandareswari has been with BJP since 2014, is known for her organizational skills. She is called the ‘Sushma Swaraj of south’ and is aged around 66. She is quite popular across BJP ranks and is fluent in 5 languages.
Vanathi on the other hand is known to have conducted several outreach programmes and is said to enjoy proximity to PM Modi and Amit Shah. Recently, Amit Shah was in Coimbatore, it has to be noted here.
This time, the BJP is considering an age limit between 50 and 70. That makes present HRD minister Dharmendra Pradhan to fall into the category. Bhupendra Yadav, 55, Vinod Tawde, 61, will also come under consideration.
The Assembly elections in UP, West Bengal, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Assam are coming up in the next few years with Bihar going to polls this year. So, the BJP is also considering poll equations.
The party’s ideological mentor RSS is also playing a part, though the final decision will be taken by party’s internal census.
