Delhi’s CM, Arvind Kejriwal, Arrested by ED

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Thursday evening following the Delhi High Court’s denial of interim protection in the Delhi excise policy case. Kejriwal has promptly appealed to the Supreme Court against this decision.

The ED accused him of being a “conspirator” in a scheme involving Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh, allegedly benefiting a southern liquor lobby with ₹100 crore.

Kejriwal’s arrest just before the general elections is nothing short of a sensation. Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel insisted that Kejriwal wouldn’t resign as the CM, asserting that the government would continue functioning even if he were jailed.

This development marks Kejriwal as the second opposition CM to be incarcerated, following Jharkhand’s former CM Hemant Soren.

A 12-member ED team extensively interrogated Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case, adding intensity to the unfolding legal saga.

We have to see if this development would benefit the Central Government or AAP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
